Islamabad: The Election Tribunal in Rawalpindi has accepted the nomination papers of Sheikh Rashid and Ijaz-ul-Haq after dismissing objections raised by the Returning Officer. The tribunal granted approval for their candidacy in NA-55 constituency in Rawalpindi.
In a recent hearing, the Election Tribunal rejected the objections raised by the Returning Officer against the nomination papers of Ijaz-ul-Haq, clearing the way for his candidacy from NA-55 in Rawalpindi. The tribunal also approved the nomination papers of Sheikh Rashid for NA-56 and NA-57 constituencies.
On the flip side, objections against the nomination papers of former Interior Minister and head of the Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rashid, from NA-56 and NA-57 were rejected, allowing him to contest the elections from these constituencies.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Fawad Chaudhry faced setbacks as objections to the nomination papers for two seats in Jhelum were accepted. The Election Tribunal initiated an inquiry into the appeal filed against the rejection, issuing notices to the Election Commission for further investigation.
Fawad Chaudhry’s legal representative argued in the tribunal that bogus objections were being raised to sideline their client from the electoral process. The tribunal has taken a serious note of the situation, directing the Election Commission to investigate the matter thoroughly.
These developments highlight the intricate process of candidate scrutiny and objections that unfold as part of the pre-election proceedings in Pakistan. The Election Tribunal plays a crucial role in ensuring fairness and transparency in the electoral process by carefully examining nomination papers and addressing objections raised by concerned parties.
