The Imran Khan medical report covering his August 10 examination at Adiala Jail has revealed new details about the former prime minister’s health, including an assessment that his anxiety level was three-plus. A four-member medical board examined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and recommended measures including a daily one-hour walk, greater access to family members and increased access to newspapers, television and books.
Four-Member Medical Board Examines Imran
According to the report cited by Geo News, the medical board included Dr Farqad Alamgir, Dr Arif Khan, Dr Akhtar Ali Bandesha and Dr Ali Arif. Dr Alamgir, who was called from London for the former premier’s treatment, was among the doctors involved in the August 10 assessment.
The Imran Khan medical report recommended a one-hour daily walk as part of measures to help manage his blood pressure and anxiety. The doctors also recommended greater access to family members, newspapers, television and books. More frequent meetings with his wife were also suggested as a way of supporting his wellbeing.
The findings emerged amid an ongoing dispute over Khan’s medical treatment, access to specialists and the conditions under which he has received healthcare while in prison.
Blood Pressure and Cardiac Findings
The August 10 examination followed a check-up by consultant cardiologist Dr Akhtar Ali Bandesha on August 1. At that appointment, Khan reportedly complained of fluctuations in blood pressure, headaches and anxiety. His blood pressure was recorded at 140/100, while his pulse was 50 beats per minute.
The later assessment recorded his blood pressure at 140/80 and pulse at 54 beats per minute. According to the report, Khan did not report chest pain, heaviness, shortness of breath or palpitations. His ECG was described as normal, while an echocardiogram showed normal heart valves and chambers.
The August 1 consultation had recommended further cardiac assessment, including CT coronary angiography. However, the four-member board later concluded that additional cardiac tests were not required, according to the medical findings reported in August.
Eye Condition Also Shows Improvement
The Imran Khan medical report comes alongside information about his treatment for central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), an eye condition affecting blood flow in the retina.
An Adiala jail report submitted to the Supreme Court stated that Khan’s affected eye had almost regained normal vision following treatment by ophthalmologists. The same report said he had undergone 39 check-ups by different specialists between November 2023 and August 10, 2026.
The improvement in his vision became an important part of proceedings concerning his request for specialist medical care outside the prison.
Supreme Court Orders Hospital Assessment
The issue later reached the Supreme Court, which ordered authorities on August 18 to shift Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment. The court also sought his complete medical record.
The government subsequently took Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of Shifa, citing security concerns. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said a team including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician conducted a detailed examination and declared Khan medically fit before he was returned to Adiala Jail.
PIMS later said specialists from Shifa International Hospital participated in Khan’s eye assessment, while PIMS doctors handled the other examinations. The hospital said its medical board had finalised a medical fitness report, although its contents were not publicly disclosed.
PTI Raises Concerns Over Treatment
PTI has continued to question the arrangements surrounding Khan’s healthcare. Party information secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram argued that the reported involvement of a London-based doctor and the restrictions on access by Khan’s personal physicians raised concerns about transparency.
PTI has demanded that Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital and that his treatment be supervised by his personal doctors. These are the party’s stated concerns and demands, rather than independent medical findings.
The government, meanwhile, has maintained that Khan is receiving appropriate medical care and has defended the decision to conduct his hospital examination at PIMS on security grounds.
Medical Debate Continues
The Imran Khan medical report has added new information to an already sensitive debate over his health and treatment in custody. The documented findings show that doctors assessed his anxiety, monitored his blood pressure and heart, and recommended changes to his daily routine and access to family and information.
At the same time, disagreements remain between PTI and government authorities over specialist access and the appropriate location for further treatment.
As questions over Khan’s healthcare continue, the medical records and official reports are likely to remain central to the discussion. For now, the available reports provide details about his August examinations, while some aspects of his treatment remain the subject of disagreement between the authorities and PTI.
