The Mir Raza Ali post-mortem has revealed several injuries that have raised fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding the young Karachi businessman’s death. An initial medical report cited by Geo News states that Ali suffered a gunshot wound from behind and had multiple marks of violence on his body.
The findings emerged after authorities exhumed Ali’s body for a detailed post-mortem examination. The examination was conducted after his family repeatedly raised concerns about the circumstances of his death and rejected suggestions that he had died by suicide.
Medical Report Highlights Multiple Injuries
According to sources familiar with the Mir Raza Ali post-mortem report, doctors identified a number of injuries during the examination. The report reportedly addressed all 14 questions raised by police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed.
One of the most significant findings was a gunshot injury from the rear. Medical examiners also documented several marks of violence, including injuries to Ali’s head and face.
The report reportedly identified fractured ribs as well as injuries to different parts of his body. Black marks were also noted, while injuries were observed on his feet. Blood stains were reportedly found on tissues in the lower portion of the body.
A particularly significant injury was recorded on Ali’s right thigh. According to the report, there was a fracture and an injury measuring approximately 12 centimetres.
Injuries to Head, Face and Chest
The Mir Raza Ali post-mortem findings also reportedly showed a deep injury and fracture around the jaw. Injuries were found around the nasal bone and other areas of the face.
The chest area showed multiple serious injuries, including a fracture of the sixth rib.
The combination of these findings has increased scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding Ali’s death. His family had previously maintained that he was murdered and had rejected speculation that the death was a suicide.
However, investigators are still expected to establish the sequence of events through forensic evidence, DNA testing, chemical analysis and other investigative procedures.
Police Investigation Team Replaced
Following the emergence of the medical findings, Karachi police made a major change to the investigation. The team previously assigned to investigate the case was removed, according to police officials.
SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh, SSP Special Investigation Unit Samiullah Soomro and other officers were reportedly removed from the investigation.
Sindh Inspector General Javed Alam Odho subsequently formed a new four-member investigation team.
DIG Crime Branch Amir Farooqi will lead the new team. CTD SSP Irfan Bahadur and SP Investigation Korangi Qais Khan are also among the officers included in the newly formed team.
The change came after Ali’s parents expressed a lack of confidence in the previous investigation.
Forensic Samples Collected
The exhumation process reportedly continued for around three hours under the supervision of forensic experts. Investigators collected 17 samples from Ali’s body.
Four samples were reportedly taken for DNA testing, while other samples were collected for chemical examination. Reference samples were also obtained from Ali’s parents to assist with DNA matching.
The samples have been preserved and are expected to be submitted to the University of Karachi’s forensic laboratory for further examination.
According to investigation sources, the DNA and chemical examination reports are expected within several days. These results could provide important evidence for investigators as they work to determine exactly what happened.
Family Continues to Demand Justice
Ali’s family has consistently rejected the possibility that he took his own life. His father said the family had maintained since July 30 that his son had been murdered.
Speaking to the media, Ali’s father expressed frustration over what he described as earlier attempts to portray the death as suicide. He said the family did not know who was responsible but believed the police possessed important information about the case.
The family’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, also raised concerns about the circumstances of the death. He said the available findings suggested Ali may have been assaulted before his death and emphasized the significance of the gunshot wound to the back.
Nasir called for the investigation team to be replaced and warned that the family could approach the courts if their concerns were not addressed.
The Mir Raza Ali post-mortem is an important development, but the medical findings alone will not determine who was responsible for his death. Investigators will need to combine the medical evidence with DNA results, chemical analysis, crime-scene evidence, witness statements and other available material.
The new investigation team now faces the task of answering several key questions, including how Ali sustained his injuries, where the shooting occurred, who was involved and what happened between the time he left his home and when his body was recovered.
