The Sindh Sports Calendar for the 2026-27 fiscal year has officially been approved, marking an important step toward promoting sports, youth engagement, and healthy lifestyles across the province. Announced by Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Khan Bakhsh Mehar, the calendar features a wide range of sporting events, from traditional games to modern e-sports competitions. The initiative aims to provide opportunities for athletes of all ages while encouraging broader participation in sports at the grassroots level.
With tournaments scheduled throughout the year, the new sports calendar reflects the provincial government’s commitment to nurturing talent and strengthening Sindh’s sporting culture. It also includes events for women, special individuals, transgender athletes, university students, and even prison inmates, making it one of the most inclusive sports programs introduced by the province.
Major Sporting Events Planned Across Sindh
The Sindh Sports Calendar includes a variety of competitions that will be hosted in different cities throughout the province.
One of the biggest highlights is the 19th Sindh Games, which will take place in Sukkur in November. The event is expected to attract athletes from across Sindh, providing a platform for competition in multiple sports disciplines.
In October, Shaheed Benazirabad will host both the Sindh Pink Games and the Special Games. These events are designed to encourage greater participation by women and athletes with disabilities, reinforcing the government’s focus on inclusive sports development.
Karachi will also play a key role by hosting the E-Sports Championship in November, reflecting the growing popularity of competitive gaming among Pakistan’s younger generation.
Beach Games and Adventure Sports
The calendar extends beyond traditional sports by including exciting outdoor and adventure events.
Karachi will host the Sindh Beach Games in December, featuring competitions along the city’s coastline. Beach sports have gained popularity worldwide, and the event is expected to attract athletes and spectators alike.
Another major attraction is the Thar Jeep Rally, scheduled for February 2027. The rally has become one of Sindh’s signature adventure sports events, drawing participants and tourists from across Pakistan.
These events not only promote sports but also showcase Sindh’s diverse landscapes and tourism potential.
Traditional Sports Receive Strong Support
An important feature of the Sindh Sports Calendar is its emphasis on preserving traditional games and cultural heritage.
Several Malakhara competitions have been scheduled throughout the year, including the All-Pakistan Malakhara event in Bhit Shah during the Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. Another Mega Malakhara will take place in Sachal Goth, Karachi, while an additional All-Pakistan Malakhara competition is planned during the Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in February 2027.
Kabaddi tournaments will also be organized alongside Malakhara events, ensuring that these traditional sports continue to receive recognition and support.
The calendar also includes the Kohistan Bullock Cart Race in Thatta, celebrating another unique cultural sporting tradition that remains popular in rural Sindh.
Special Festivals and Community Events
Beyond major tournaments, the annual schedule includes several community-based sports festivals.
The Lyari Sports Festival will be held in April, highlighting one of Karachi’s most passionate sporting communities. Lyari has long been known for producing talented footballers and athletes, making it a fitting venue for a large-scale sporting celebration.
The Pink Football Championship, scheduled for May, aims to encourage greater female participation in football and inspire young girls to pursue sports professionally.
Another unique event is the Donkey Kart Race, planned for June 2027 in Karachi. While entertaining, the race has become a popular cultural event that attracts large crowds each year.
Hyderabad will also host the Iqbal Day Sports Festival and a provincial Chess Championship, offering opportunities for athletes in both physical and mind sports.
Focus on Inclusion and Youth Development
One of the most encouraging aspects of the Sindh Sports Calendar is its inclusive approach.
According to the Sports Minister, the government has expanded participation opportunities to include transgender athletes, individuals with disabilities, university students, and prison inmates. This reflects a broader vision of ensuring that sports remain accessible to every segment of society.
The calendar also introduces activities for street children, including football, cricket, street danda, tug-of-war, and other recreational competitions. These initiatives aim to engage young people in healthy activities while promoting teamwork, discipline, and confidence.
By supporting participation at every level, Sindh hopes to identify and develop future sporting talent.
Financial Support for Sports Associations
In addition to organizing events, the provincial government has announced financial assistance for various sports associations across Sindh.
This funding is expected to strengthen local organizations, improve training opportunities, and help athletes prepare for national and international competitions. Strong support for sports associations is essential for creating sustainable development pathways for emerging players.
Officials believe these investments will contribute to raising the overall standard of sports in the province over the coming years.
The newly approved Sindh Sports Calendar demonstrates a balanced approach by combining modern sports, traditional games, cultural festivals, and inclusive participation initiatives. By hosting events across multiple cities and supporting athletes from diverse backgrounds, the government aims to strengthen both competitive sports and community engagement.
If implemented successfully, the calendar could play an important role in identifying future champions while encouraging healthier lifestyles among the province’s youth. More importantly, it reflects a long-term commitment to making sports an integral part of Sindh’s social and cultural development.
As preparations begin for the upcoming competitions, athletes and sports enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting year filled with opportunities to compete, celebrate talent, and represent Sindh with pride.
