Dubai completes first air taxi test flight in push for smart urban mobility

dubai has achieved a significant breakthrough in urban transportation by successfully conducting the first test flight of an air taxi developed by u.s.-based joby aviation.

the trial was carried out in collaboration with dubai’s roads and transport authority (rta) and marks a key step in the emirate’s plan to launch full-scale air taxi services by 2026.

crown prince sheikh hamdan bin mohammed bin rashid al maktoum announced the milestone on social platform x, calling it a “groundbreaking step” that will shorten distances, improve quality of life in dubai, and reshape sustainable, eco-friendly urban mobility.

he further noted that the initiative is in line with dubai’s vision of becoming a global hub for innovation and smart transport solutions.

the air taxi service is expected to transform travel within the city by easing road congestion and offering a fast, environmentally friendly alternative to conventional transportation.
