American tenor Brian Jagde has been tapped for the lead role of Don Alvaro in La Scala’s highly anticipated gala season premiere of Verdi’s La Forza del Destino this Saturday. Jagde replaces the celebrated Jonas Kaufmann in the performance, marking his third appearance at the iconic Milan opera house alongside soprano Anna Netrebko.
Jagde, who recently sang the same role in Barcelona, has stepped in for La Scala productions before, notably replacing Roberto Alagna in Turandot this summer. His participation in the prestigious opening night event is a rare honor for an American artist, given the tradition of European dominance in La Scala’s history.
