A former Indian government official, Vikash Yadav, recently charged by the U.S. for allegedly orchestrating a foiled murder plot, had previously been arrested in New Delhi in December on attempted murder charges, according to court records and a police source.
The U.S. Justice Department unsealed an indictment against Yadav, 39, on Thursday, accusing him of leading a conspiracy to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a U.S.-Canadian Sikh separatist, starting in May 2023. At the time, Yadav was reportedly a government employee in India.
In a separate incident, Delhi Police arrested Yadav on December 18, 2023, along with an associate, in connection with an attempted murder case in the Indian capital. Both were charged with attempted murder and other related offenses, according to filings in a Delhi district court.
