In a significant development, both the Balochistan Bar Council and the Balochistan High Court have lodged petitions with the Supreme Court concerning purported interference in the judiciary. The legal fraternity in Balochistan has urged the Supreme Court to convene a full court and issue directives to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This follows a series of events surrounding alleged judicial interference, with the Islamabad High Court Bar also approaching the Supreme Court on the matter. The Supreme Court took automatic notice of a letter penned by judges of the Islamabad High Court, amplifying concerns over the integrity of the judiciary.
Justice (Rtd) has thrown weight behind investigating the allegations put forth by Justice Shaukat Siddiqui, as highlighted in the letter signed by six judges of the Islamabad High Court. The petitions submitted underscore the demand for the dissolution of the commission established by the federal government and the imposition of penalties on those found to be meddling in judicial affairs.
Previously, the Islamabad High Court Bar had initiated a constitutional petition urging the Supreme Court to probe the judges’ letter, advocating for a transparent investigation into the allegations raised by the High Court judges.
It’s imperative to note that six judges of the Islamabad High Court were implicated in alleged interference by clandestine agencies, prompting them to write to the Supreme Judicial Council, urging an inquiry into the conduct of Justice Retired Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui.
