Pneumonia outbreak laims seven lives in punjab amidst rising cases.

In the past 24 hours, seven more lives have been lost to the pneumonia outbreak in Punjab, with the total number of cases continuing to surge. The escalation is attributed to a combination of smog, dry conditions, and cold weather prevailing in the region.

Punjab reported 320 new pneumonia cases in the last 24 hours, resulting in the tragic death of seven children. The capital city, Lahore, recorded one fatality and 180 new cases during the same period.

The winter season has seen a total of 13,460 reported pneumonia cases in Punjab, with Lahore alone contributing 3,020 cases. The toll on children is particularly distressing, with around 300 lives lost to the virus across the province. Numerous infants are currently undergoing treatment in Lahore’s hospitals for chest infections.

Health experts have identified smog and air pollution as major factors fueling the spike in pneumonia cases. Pneumonia, characterized by lung infections, is predominantly caused by viral agents. Young children, especially those under five years old, are at a heightened risk of contracting the disease, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and preventive measures.
