The Ministry of Commerce in Pakistan has reported a substantial increase of $1.7 billion in exports over the last five months, spanning from September 2023 to January 2024.
Officials from the commerce ministry highlighted a setback in domestic exports during July-August 2023 on a yearly basis. However, under the caretaker government’s proactive measures, exports witnessed steady growth each month, according to the officials.
Providing specific figures, the officials noted that exports were at $2.44 billion in September 2022 and saw a modest increase to $2.47 billion in September 2023. The positive trend continued, with exports rising from $2.38 billion in October 2022 to $2.69 billion in October 2023.
In November 2022, exports were recorded at $2.39 billion, and they experienced growth to $2.57 billion in November 2023. Similarly, December 2022 saw exports at $2.31 billion, which surged to $2.81 billion in December 2023. January 2023 witnessed exports at $2.19 billion, and the figure climbed to $2.78 billion in January 2024.
Officials revealed that January marked a year-on-year increase of approximately $600 million in exports. Furthermore, efforts are underway to provide electricity to the textile sector at a tariff of nine cents, a move expected to further boost exports, as per the officials.
