IHC temporarily restores deputy commissioner’s power to issue MPO.

In a significant development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has, on Thursday, issued a temporary restoration of the deputy commissioner’s authority to issue Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). The decision was made by a division bench, with IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, responding to an application seeking a stay on the previous ruling of a single bench.

Justice Babar Sattar had earlier declared the deputy commissioner’s power to issue MPO as illegal, prompting the chief commissioner and home secretary to file an intra-court appeal against this decision. The recent order by the division bench introduces a temporary reprieve, emphasizing the evolving nature of legal proceedings surrounding this matter.
