The Election Tribunal has approved the nomination papers of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his son Zain Qureshi from the NA-214 constituency in Kot Addu. The Returning Officer had initially rejected their nomination papers, leading to a challenge against this decision.
The challenge, filed by the Returning Officer, sought a review of the decision to reject the nomination papers of Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Zain Qureshi from the NA-214 constituency. The hearing of this challenge took place before Justice Adnan ul Karim of the Election Tribunal.
The Election Tribunal, after considering the appeals, accepted the nomination papers of Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Zain Qureshi, granting them permission to contest the elections from NA-214 Kot Addu. This decision came in contrast to the Returning Officer’s earlier verdict.
The Tribunal also made decisions on other appeals related to the rejection of nomination papers. Helim Adil, based on A.N. 238, was granted permission to contest elections, while PPP’s candidate, Murtaza Iqtidar Beg, received conditional approval based on A.N. 241.
Justice Adnan ul Karim emphasized the importance of submitting a sworn affidavit if dual citizenship has been renounced. He stated that if the affidavit turns out to be false, it could lead to the nullification of success after winning the elections.
In another notable decision, the Tribunal accepted the appeal of PTI’s candidate Arslan Khalid from NA-241, allowing him to participate in the upcoming elections.
The rulings of the Election Tribunal are significant as they address challenges to the rejection of nomination papers, ensuring that political candidates can exercise their right to contest elections in a fair and transparent manner.
