Amir Haider Hoti, the central senior vice president of the Awami National Party (ANP) and former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has stated that he does not agree with Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s suggestion of delaying the elections.
Addressing a gathering focused on men, Amir Haider Hoti emphasized the crucial nature of the elections scheduled for February 8, asserting that they are essential for political and economic stability. He underscored that the responsibility for conducting elections in a peaceful environment lies with the state.
Amir Haider Hoti reflected on the challenging circumstances faced in 2013 when political leaders were under threat, and elections were being actively campaigned for amid the backdrop of terrorist attacks. He expressed confidence that this time, elections would not be affected by acts of terror, emphasizing that the decision should rest with the people, and their choice must be respected.
It is noteworthy that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, recently suggested that elections might not take place on the scheduled date, advocating for a delay. In response to this, Amir Haider Hoti presented a contrasting view, stressing the importance of holding elections as per the announced schedule. The differing perspectives within political circles underscore the complexity and diversity of opinions as Pakistan prepares for the upcoming polls.
