Brave has released a new set of Brave browser benchmarks claiming that its desktop browser uses fewer system resources than Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox while also delivering faster webpage loading. According to the company, Brave consumed significantly less CPU, memory, and energy during its tests, while also reducing network traffic.

The company reported that Brave used 44% less CPU, 28% less memory, and 10% less energy on average than the three competing browsers. It also claimed that webpages loaded 20% faster, with 26% less inbound data and 39% less outbound data.

Brave Shows Lower CPU Usage

CPU consumption was one of the biggest differences highlighted in the Brave browser benchmarks. Brave recorded average CPU utilization of about 33%, compared with 47% for Chrome, 53% for Edge, and 78% for Firefox.

The results suggest that Brave required fewer processor resources during the tested browsing sessions. Lower CPU usage can be particularly useful for users running multiple applications at the same time, as well as those using laptops where processor activity can influence battery life.

Memory usage also favored Brave. The browser consumed approximately 1.2GB of memory, while Chrome used around 1.75GB. Edge required about 1.62GB, and Firefox consumed roughly 1.65GB.

Brave attributed much of its lower resource consumption to its built-in ad and tracker blocking. By preventing advertisements, analytics scripts, tracking pixels, and other third-party requests from loading, the browser can reduce the number of processes and network connections involved in displaying a webpage.

Faster Full Page Loading

The Brave browser benchmarks also showed an advantage in overall page-loading time.

Brave completed full webpage loads in approximately 4.4 seconds during the tests. Chrome took about 5.1 seconds, Firefox required around 5.3 seconds, while Edge was the slowest at approximately six seconds.

However, the difference was much smaller when looking at Largest Contentful Paint, or LCP. This measurement focuses on when the largest visible piece of content appears on the screen.

Brave and Chrome both averaged around 2.4 seconds for LCP. Edge and Firefox followed closely at approximately 2.5 seconds.

This indicates that Brave’s larger advantage may come after the main content becomes visible. Its blocking technology can prevent additional advertisements, tracking systems, analytics requests, and delayed scripts from continuing to load in the background.

Less Network Data

Network usage was another area where Brave reported an advantage.

According to the company’s results, Brave received approximately 4.4MB of data per webpage. Chrome received about 4.8MB, while Firefox used approximately 6.3MB and Edge 6.8MB.

Brave also recorded the lowest outbound traffic, sending around 0.18MB per webpage. Firefox sent about 0.25MB, Edge approximately 0.30MB, and Chrome recorded the highest figure at around 0.34MB.

Reducing unnecessary network requests can benefit users on limited connections while potentially helping pages feel more responsive.

How Brave Conducted the Tests

Brave conducted the Brave browser benchmarks using an Apple Mac Mini equipped with an M2 chip and 8GB of memory. The computer ran macOS 26.5.1.

The company tested the landing pages of the 50 most popular websites according to Brave Search statistics. Each website was tested 10 times, with a clean browser profile used for every run.

The versions tested were Brave 1.92.139, Chrome 150, Microsoft Edge 150, and Firefox 146. Brave, Chrome, and Edge are based on Chromium, while Firefox uses Mozilla’s Gecko engine.

Results Should Be Viewed Carefully

Although the Brave browser benchmarks present strong results for Brave, they should not automatically be treated as a definitive comparison of browser performance.

The most important limitation is that Brave conducted the tests itself rather than relying on an independent benchmarking organization. Company-run testing can still provide useful information, but independent verification would make the findings more convincing.

Brave has published details about its hardware, software versions, websites, and testing methodology, allowing researchers and users to attempt to reproduce the results.

The benchmarks highlight how built-in ad and tracker blocking can affect browser resource consumption and network activity. While independent testing is still needed to confirm the scale of the differences, Brave’s results suggest that blocking unnecessary web content could play an important role in improving browsing efficiency.
