A groundbreaking Beatles song, crafted with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI), is slated for release on November 2, marking a historic moment in music history.
The legendary Beatles, consisting of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison, pursued solo careers after going their separate ways in 1970 and never reunited. Tragically, John Lennon was fatally shot in New York in 1980 at the age of 40, and George Harrison passed away from lung cancer in 2001 at the age of 58.
The forthcoming song, titled “Now And Then,” was originally written and performed by John Lennon and has now been completed through the collaborative efforts of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and AI technology.
The song’s final touches were provided by McCartney and Starr in the previous year, and it also features the contributions of the late George Harrison, who recorded electric and acoustic guitar parts in 1995.
The release of “Now And Then” is a joint effort by Apple Corps, Capitol, and Universal Music Enterprises and will be accompanied by a music video. Additionally, a documentary detailing the song’s creation will be available for viewing on YouTube.
John Lennon originally recorded “Now And Then” in the late 1970s, featuring piano music. This song was among those captured on a cassette that Lennon prepared for Paul McCartney one year prior to Lennon’s passing. Yoko Ono, Lennon’s widow, presented the cassette to McCartney in 1994.
Renowned producer Jeff Lynne polished and released two more songs in a similar fashion, “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love,” in 1995 and 1996.
The innovative use of AI technology played a crucial role in separating Lennon’s vocal track from the piano chords, facilitating the completion of the song.
Paul McCartney expressed his excitement about the opportunity to work on Beatles music in 2023, underscoring the significance of this release for fans and as a touching moment in Beatles history.
In addition to “Now And Then,” the release will also feature the Beatles’ 1962 debut single, “Love Me Do,” and showcase cover art created by artist Ed Ruscha. This release marks a pivotal moment in music history, merging the iconic sounds of the past with cutting-edge technology to create a unique addition to the Beatles’ storied discography.
