NDC condemns PTI UK rally remarks against field Marshal Asim Munir, seeks clarification

The National Dialogue Committee (NDC) has strongly condemned remarks made against Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir during a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in the United Kingdom, describing them as irresponsible and unacceptable, ARY News reported.

In an official statement, the committee warned that targeting the army chief at a time of sensitive national circumstances could have serious repercussions. It stressed that provocative and non-serious conduct under such conditions could prove disastrous for the country.

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry also criticised the remarks, urging PTI to clarify its stance and adopt a clear and principled position regarding statements made against the Field Marshal.

The NDC called on PTI’s leadership in Pakistan to publicly and unequivocally condemn the remarks made at the UK rally, warning that silence would further deepen concerns. It emphasised that political parties must ensure discipline among their representatives, particularly those addressing overseas gatherings.

The committee further demanded that PTI establish a proper mechanism for selecting speakers at public rallies, especially abroad, to prevent unchecked rhetoric. According to the NDC, such incidents damage Pakistan’s international image and risk fuelling internal instability.

The committee underscored that reckless statements targeting state institutions undermine national cohesion and distract from constructive political dialogue, stressing that criticism must remain within constitutional and democratic limits.

Government Raises Concern Over Threats from UK Soil

Earlier, the Pakistan government expressed serious concern over alleged threats issued against Field Marshal Asim Munir from the United Kingdom and called for legal action against those involved.

According to sources, a video allegedly posted on 23 December 2025 from PTI UK’s official X account showed demonstrators issuing death threats against the army chief. In the footage, a woman was reportedly heard making inflammatory remarks, including references to a car bomb.

The video was later amplified by PTI-linked social media accounts. Authorities stated that such rhetoric constitutes a serious violation of international norms and falls under offences outlined in the UK’s Terrorism Act 2006.

Pakistan has called for the identification of those involved, citing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373, which obliges states to prevent terrorism, incitement to violence, and support for such acts.
