Senator Irfan Siddiqui Seeks Answers on Missing Bill Pertaining to Islamabad District Administration

Senator Irfan Siddiqui has written a letter to the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior Affairs, Mohsin Aziz, regarding his missing bill that has been absent for the past 15 months. In the letter, Senator Siddiqui expressed concerns over the disappearance of the bill that aimed to strip officers of the Islamabad district administration of their judicial powers.

The bill in question, known as Bill 2022, received approval from both houses of parliament. The National Assembly sent the bill to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs on June 20, 2002, and it was subsequently forwarded to the President for authentication through the Prime Minister’s Office on June 21, 2022.

However, despite being approved by the National Assembly and the Senate, the bill has gone missing.

In his letter, Senator Irfan Siddiqui highlighted that the President’s House had confirmed that the bill had not reached their offices. He expressed his desire to personally inform the committee about the details and expected that the committee would discuss this matter during its meeting scheduled for September 28. He also hoped that the committee’s intervention would help locate the missing bill.

The bill’s significance lies in its potential to curtail the judicial powers of officers in the Islamabad district administration. Such legislation would likely have far-reaching consequences and implications for the local governance and administrative setup in the capital city.

The disappearance of a bill that has been duly approved by the parliament is a matter of great concern and raises questions about the transparency and accountability of the legislative process. Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s proactive approach in seeking answers and his communication with the Senate Standing Committee on Interior Affairs demonstrate his commitment to resolving this issue and ensuring that the bill is located and appropriately addressed.

The Senate committee’s deliberations on this matter during their upcoming meeting will shed light on the circumstances surrounding the missing bill and may lead to corrective actions to rectify the situation. In a democracy, transparency, and accountability in legislative processes are paramount, and this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding the integrity of parliamentary procedures.
