The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL 2020 champions Karachi Kings on Tuesday confirmed the renewal of the franchise’s rights for the next 10 years, marking a significant milestone in the team’s decade-long journey in the Pakistan Super League.
The announcement was shared simultaneously by the PCB and Karachi Kings across their digital platforms.
This renewal extends a legacy that began in 2015, when Karachi Kings’ owner Mr Salman Iqbal made a landmark investment to acquire the league’s most expensive franchise rights at a time when international cricket had virtually disappeared from Pakistan.
“We trusted PSL before the world did,” says Salman Iqbal
Reflecting on the journey, Mr Salman Iqbal said:
“In 2015, we were the ones who stepped up to bring cricket back. We trusted the PCB and the PSL concept when international teams were not touring Pakistan. Our acquisition of the league’s most expensive franchise was a concrete act of faith in our nation’s cricketing future.”
He added that the Karachi Kings have played a pivotal role in transforming the PSL into a “commercial and sporting powerhouse” that contributed significantly to the return of international cricket to Pakistan.
CEO Tariq Wasi: “A strong decade built—another stronger one ahead”
Karachi Kings CEO Mr Tariq Wasi described the renewal as a reaffirmation of the franchise’s long-term vision:
“I am thoroughly happy with the decision to renew our partnership with the PSL for another ten years. This renewal reflects the strong foundation we have built and our commitment to continued growth for both Karachi Kings and the PSL ecosystem.”
He added that the franchise remains focused on building competitive squads, expanding fan engagement, and strengthening the PSL’s global reputation.
A Decade of Leadership in Pakistan Cricket
From the league’s inception, Karachi Kings have worked closely with the PCB to elevate the entire cricketing ecosystem—from raising the commercial profile of the PSL to supporting efforts aimed at restoring international cricket in the country.
Over the years, the franchise has delivered:
- Record-breaking sponsorship and broadcast value
- A steady talent pipeline for the national team
- Consistent investment in grassroots cricket
Initiatives such as “Sindh Ke Shehzady” and “Khilari Ki Khoj” have been instrumental in discovering future stars—including Shahnawaz Dahani, who rose to international cricket through the Kings’ talent programs, and Fawad Ali from Swat, who gained national attention for his exceptional pace.
Looking Ahead: Karachi Kings Set Course for the Future
As the PSL steps into a new phase of expansion, Karachi Kings—under the leadership of Salman Iqbal—aim not only to compete but to lead with innovation, ambition, and excellence.
The franchise pledged to continue:
- Strengthening its youth development ecosystem
- Elevating Pakistan’s cricketing brand globally
- Serving as the pride and heartbeat of Karachi
Karachi Kings also expressed gratitude to their fans, players, coaching staff, and the PCB for their support and trust throughout this remarkable journey.
