Pakistan’s security forces successfully thwarted a suicide attack on the Frontier Corps (FC) Headquarters in Peshawar on Monday, killing three terrorists, ARY News reported, citing CCPO Peshawar.
Three FC personnel also embraced martyrdom during the operation to stop the attackers.
According to officials, two powerful explosions were heard near the FC Headquarters in the Saddar area shortly after 8 a.m. The blasts shattered windows in surrounding buildings, prompting law enforcement agencies to immediately cordon off the area and initiate a search operation.
CCPO Peshawar confirmed that the first suicide bomber detonated himself at 8:11 a.m. at the headquarters’ main gate. Two other attackers attempted to force their way inside but were neutralized by FC personnel at the entrance.
Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfikar Hamid told ARY News that two FC personnel were martyred and two others injured during the encounter. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The IG emphasized that the terrorists’ plot could have resulted in large-scale casualties, but timely action and strong security protocols prevented a far more devastating attack.
A clearance operation is currently underway, while the road in front of the headquarters remains closed to traffic. Security agencies are collecting evidence from the scene to determine the origin, planning, and possible facilitators of the attack.
Security across the city has been placed on high alert following the incident.
