On Tuesday, the opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) held a protest march from Parliament House to the Supreme Court against the recently enacted 27th Constitutional Amendment.
Mushtaq Ahmad Khan participated in the march alongside TTAP Vice Chairman Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, and PTI Senator Faisal Javed.
Speaking to the media, Mushtaq demanded the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and raised slogans against what he termed “autocracy” in the country. He rejected both the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, calling for the Constitution to be restored to its original form.
Mushtaq clarified that he is the chairman of the Pakistan Rights Movement (PRM), which he described as a political and civil movement.
Following the protest, a media report alleged that he had joined PTI. However, in a statement posted on social media, he categorically refuted the claim, saying:
“I have not joined any political party. As Chairman of the Pakistan Rights Movement (PRM), I am struggling for democracy, a free parliament, an impartial judiciary, fundamental human rights, an end to enforced disappearances, and for the causes of Kashmir and Palestine.”
He added that while he supports TTAP’s objectives against authoritarianism, he stands with the alliance through the platform of PRM, not as a PTI member.
Last month, Mushtaq Ahmed joined the TTAP alliance after leaving Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) following his return to Pakistan after being released from an Israeli prison. TTAP is a political movement comprising six parties.
Mushtaq had also met TTAP Chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas to discuss the country’s political situation and the need to uphold the rule of law and the Constitution.
