Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher has stirred online debate after describing his career as a case of “suffering from success,” suggesting that his looks have both helped and hindered his progress in the industry.
Speaking at the New York Comic Con while promoting his upcoming FX series The Beauty, the 47-year-old actor reflected on how his appearance has influenced his casting opportunities. “There are roles that I’ve gotten because of the way I look, and there are roles that I haven’t gotten because of the way I look,” Kutcher said, expressing frustration over being overlooked for more serious roles due to his image.
However, his remarks quickly drew criticism online. Many social media users dismissed his claim, arguing that Kutcher’s acting range — not his looks — has limited his opportunities. One user commented, “What a lack of self-awareness. How would you explain actors like Cillian Murphy, Brad Pitt, or George Clooney, who’ve had diverse careers despite being good-looking? That’s just a dumb thing to say.”
Another echoed the sentiment, writing, “It’s not his looks holding him back — it’s his acting skills.”
Despite the backlash, Kutcher remains a familiar face in Hollywood, known for his roles in That ’70s Show, Two and a Half Men, and several romantic comedies. Outside of acting, he and his wife, actress Mila Kunis, share two children — daughter Wyatt Isabelle and son Dimitri Portwood.
