Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is making strong efforts to secure the release of former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, who was detained by Israeli forces during the interception of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla. The ministry said its embassy in Amman, Jordan, is working around the clock to ensure his safe evacuation and return home.
In an official statement, the Foreign Office expressed optimism that the process could be completed within the next few days with the help of Jordan. “With the invaluable assistance of the Jordanian government, we are hopeful that this matter will be successfully concluded soon. We are deeply grateful to the brotherly government of Jordan for its cooperation and generous support,” the statement read.
Earlier, Pakistan confirmed that it was in contact with international partners to ensure the safety and repatriation of its citizens detained during the Gaza aid mission. Through diplomatic channels of a friendly European country, authorities verified that former senator Mushtaq Ahmad is in Israeli custody but safe and in good health.
The ministry further shared that Israeli authorities plan to present him before a court. Once deportation orders are issued, his return will be handled on a fast-track basis to ensure a quick and safe evacuation.
Mushtaq Ahmad Khan was detained on October 2 while taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international effort carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, which remains under Israeli blockade. He was leading a five-member Pakistani delegation that joined international activists and aid groups supporting the mission.
According to reports, the Israeli military intercepted over 40 flotilla vessels about 42.5 nautical miles (79 kilometers) off the Gaza coast, detaining more than 450 activists aboard. The operation sparked widespread condemnation from countries and human rights organizations worldwide.
The flotilla’s interception has renewed criticism of Tel Aviv’s actions, with calls for the immediate release of detained activists and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry continues to work with international allies and Jordanian officials to ensure the early and safe return of its detained citizen, reaffirming the country’s commitment to humanitarian causes and global peace efforts.
