James Gunn’s superman holds No. 1 spot at box office, surges past $400 Million globally.

James Gunn’s Superman continues to soar at the North American box office, raking in $57.3 million in its second weekend and retaining the top spot in theaters, according to Sunday’s studio estimates.

Despite a typical 54% drop from its opening weekend — standard for big summer releases — Superman faced little challenge from this week’s new titles. Debuts like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Smurfs, and Eddington failed to come close to Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ superhero juggernaut.

In just two weeks, Superman has pulled in a strong $406.8 million worldwide. With solid reviews and enthusiastic audience scores, the $225 million-budgeted film is well on its way to profitability — a crucial outcome for DC Studios as it attempts to reboot its cinematic universe.

The film is the first step in a 10-year roadmap led by co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, who were brought in to revitalize the DC film slate. Upcoming titles under their vision include Supergirl and Clayface, both slated for 2026.

However, the box office crown may be tested next weekend with the arrival of Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a major release from Walt Disney Studios.

Meanwhile, Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Rebirth held strong in second place, earning $23.4 million in its third weekend. The Scarlett Johansson-led dinosaur epic has now amassed $648 million globally — proving resilient despite Superman‘s dominance.
