Punjab budget 2025: focus on development, no new taxes, says finance minister.

The Punjab budget for the next financial year will be presented today (Monday) in the provincial assembly in Lahore by Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman. The budget, he stated, reflects the developmental vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Addressing the media ahead of the budget presentation, Shuja ur Rehman assured that no new taxes would be introduced. Instead, the government aims to improve the efficiency of tax collection on existing levies.

He emphasized that the budget will focus on maximizing the productive use of provincial assets to enhance revenue, while continuing key initiatives in education, healthcare, and social protection.

“The budget has something in store for everyone,” he said, pledging inclusive support for women, children, persons with disabilities, and laborers.

Support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is also on the agenda, with both technical and financial assistance planned. Additionally, the Kisan Card program will be strengthened to better meet farmers’ needs.

Framing the budget around the principles of economic growth, transparency, and social security, the finance minister said development projects will take center stage, especially in underdeveloped regions like South Punjab.

Concluding his remarks, Shuja ur Rehman described the budget as “people-friendly,” and committed to inclusive progress: “We aim to lift every boat and leave no one behind.”
