Sean Williams returns as Zimbabwe announce squad for Bangladesh test series.

Zimbabwe veteran Sean Williams is set to return to red-ball cricket after recovering from a back injury, as he features in the 15-man squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting April 20.

Williams missed Zimbabwe’s last Test against Ireland but is now back alongside captain Craig Ervine, who also returns after opting out of the Ireland game due to personal reasons. Wessly Madhevere, a late replacement in that match, retains his spot in the squad.

Zimbabwe have made three changes to the side that took on Ireland:

  • Tafadzwa Tsiga returns to the Test setup after two years, replacing Joylord Gumbie behind the stumps.
  • Wellington Masakadza, a left-arm spinner, is back after his last appearance in 2023, replacing young pacer Newman Nyamhuri.
  • Vincent Masekesa, a legspinner, is the only uncapped player in the squad.

The pace attack will be led by Blessing Muzarabani, who recently became the first Zimbabwean pacer to take seven wickets in a Test innings, alongside Richard Ngarava.

Head coach Justin Sammons expressed confidence in the squad:

“We are very excited to be heading into a period where Test cricket will be our sole focus… I am certain this group of players will continue to grow as individuals and as a team.”

Fixtures:

  • 1st Test: April 20 – Sylhet
  • 2nd Test: April 28 – Chattogram

This will be Zimbabwe’s first Test series in Bangladesh since 2020, when they lost a one-off match by an innings and 106 runs in Dhaka.
