Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sets Record with 3,000+ Children’s Heart Surgeries

CM Maryam Nawaz

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a groundbreaking achievement in pediatric heart surgery, with over 3,000 children undergoing life-saving heart surgeries in the past six months. This milestone, part of the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program, has set a new record in healthcare, ensuring free and timely treatment for children with congenital heart diseases.

A Lifeline for Children with Heart Diseases

Speaking about the initiative, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that children’s health is a top priority, and the government is committed to covering all medical expenses for heart surgeries. She expressed her deep compassion, stating:

The suffering of children is unbearable, and they have the first right over government resources. For me, all children are like my own.

Under this program, the Punjab government has registered 7,436 children, many of whom have already undergone treatment. The initiative is not limited to Punjab alone—children from Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also benefiting from free heart surgeries.

Collaboration with British Doctors

A team of British doctors has been instrumental in performing these life-saving surgeries at the Faisalabad Cardiology Institute. Their expertise, combined with the efforts of local medical teams, has significantly improved the success rate of these critical procedures.

Extending Support Beyond Punjab

Maryam Nawaz highlighted that children from across Pakistan’s provinces and territories are receiving free heart surgeries under the Punjab government’s program.

316 children from KP will undergo surgeries in Punjab hospitals.
51 children from Sindh and 11 from Balochistan have already been registered.
158 children from Azad Kashmir and 30 from Gilgit-Baltistan will receive treatment.

This initiative ensures that no child is left untreated, regardless of their province or financial background.

Public and Private Sector Contributions

The program has successfully conducted:
2,419 surgeries in government hospitals
743 surgeries in private hospitals

With the Punjab government covering all expenses, families no longer have to worry about the financial burden of these costly procedures.
