The voting process for the Khalistan referendum in Los Angeles, California, concluded successfully on Monday, with over 35,000 Sikhs participating to voice their support for an independent Khalistan in Indian Punjab.
Sikhs from across the United States gathered at the Civic Center, where voting commenced at 9 AM, witnessing a significant turnout.
Following the conclusion of the referendum, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, the leader of Sikhs for Justice, addressed the crowd. He announced that the next Khalistan referendum would take place on August 17 in Washington, D.C., and expressed gratitude to the Trump administration for facilitating the voting process.
Pannu emphasized that Sikhs worldwide are sending a strong message to India through their votes, asserting their desire for independence. He remarked that Sikhs would respond to India’s actions with their ballots rather than violence.
During the event, Sikh leaders condemned the Indian government, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration of being involved in assassination attempts against Sikh activists in the US, Canada, and other countries. Despite these alleged attacks, they asserted that the Khalistan movement remains resolute.
The participation of over 35,000 Sikhs in the referendum is seen as a powerful demonstration of the movement’s momentum and the community’s determination for self-determination.
