Dr. Karenne Fru, a double-board certified OB-GYN and reproductive endocrinologist, has opened Muna Fertility, a self-funded IVF clinic in Sandy Springs, Georgia, with the goal of making fertility treatments more accessible. The 6,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility aims to support families seeking infertility care, Fru told Reuters.
Her clinic’s launch aligns with a recent executive order signed by former President Donald Trump on February 18, which seeks to reduce IVF costs and improve access to fertility treatments. The order highlights the high cost of IVF, which ranges from $12,000 to $25,000 per cycle, and stresses the need for affordable and reliable reproductive care.
Dr. Fru sees the order as a promising step that could help many aspiring parents but warns that lasting change requires legislation.
“I am more anticipating what actual legislature comes from this. If this remains an executive order and no laws get signed that codify protections for IVF, increase access, or reduce patient costs, then all it is, is talk,” Fru said.
The order also directs the President’s assistant for domestic policy to develop policy recommendations within 90 days to safeguard IVF access and lower costs.
