In a major step toward eradicating polio, Pakistan successfully vaccinated more than 16.4 million children during the latest immunization drive, with 1.2 million vaccinated in Lahore and 582,000 in Rawalpindi.
Final Day of the Campaign in 33 Districts
According to Adeel Taswar, head of the Polio Eradication Program, today marks the last day of the campaign in 33 districts. Health workers are making their final push to vaccinate unimmunized children, focusing on newborns and children in high-risk areas.
Following the conclusion of this phase, a catch-up campaign will begin in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad to ensure no child is left unprotected.
Why Polio Eradication is Critical
Taswar emphasized that polio elimination is a global priority, and any resurgence could lead to the virus spreading worldwide. He acknowledged the hard work of polio teams, urging them to stay vigilant at key checkpoints to ensure maximum coverage.
If polio is not eradicated, it can travel across borders and put millions of children at risk, he warned.
Government’s Strong Commitment to Polio-Free Pakistan
The Pakistani government, in collaboration with the health department, has made polio eradication a top priority. Special monitoring teams have been deployed to oversee the progress of the vaccination drive.
Authorities are also calling on parents to fully cooperate with polio teams to ensure the success of the campaign.
Polio Eradication: A Step Towards a Healthier Future
Polio remains a serious threat, particularly in areas with low immunization rates. However, Pakistan’s continuous efforts are paving the way for a polio-free future. With millions of children now protected, the nation is moving closer to eliminating the virus once and for all.
