OpenAI warns of Chinese firms attempts to tap U.S. AI Technology.

OpenAI stated on Tuesday that Chinese companies are “constantly” attempting to access U.S. AI advancements to enhance their own artificial intelligence models.

“As a leading AI developer, we implement countermeasures to safeguard our intellectual property. This includes a careful selection process for incorporating frontier capabilities into released models. Moving forward, we believe it is crucial to collaborate closely with the U.S. government to protect advanced AI models from adversaries and competitors seeking to acquire U.S. technology,” OpenAI said in a statement.

These remarks came after the White House announced its evaluation of potential national security risks posed by China’s DeepSeek.

David Sacks, the White House’s AI and crypto adviser, highlighted that Chinese firms could leverage an AI technique called “distillation” to extract knowledge from U.S. AI leaders.
