Jacques audiard emilia pérez breaks records with 13 oscar nominations.

Jacques Audiard’s groundbreaking musical, Emilia Pérez, has shattered records, becoming the most Oscar-nominated non-English language film in history with 13 nominations. This achievement surpasses the previous records held by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2001) and Roma (2018), both of which earned 10 nominations.

The film, centered on a transgender gangster seeking a new life in Mexico, has also made history with Karla Sofía Gascón’s nomination for Best Actress. Gascón is the first out transgender actor to receive an Oscar nomination, marking a significant moment for representation in Hollywood.

Other nominations for Emilia Pérez include Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña), Best Director (Jacques Audiard), Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best International Feature, and nods for Editing, Cinematography, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Best Sound, and two Original Song nominations.

Among other highly-nominated films, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, a sweeping epic about a Hungarian architect starring Adrien Brody, and the adaptation of Wicked each garnered 10 nominations. James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and Edward Berger’s papal thriller Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes, both secured eight nominations.

The recognition of Emilia Pérez highlights the Academy’s growing embrace of diverse storytelling, with the film standing as a landmark in both representation and international cinema.
