Boko haram insurgents kill 20 fishermen in borno, Nigeria.

At least 20 fishermen were killed in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno when Boko Haram insurgents launched a deadly attack on their village, according to local fishermen and security officials on Thursday.

Nigeria has been battling a 16-year Islamist insurgency in the northeast, spearheaded by Boko Haram and its faction, ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province). The conflict has caused massive human and economic losses, widespread displacement, and a severe humanitarian crisis.

Modu Ari, a member of the civilian joint task force, reported that the insurgents stormed the fishing village of Gadan Gari on Wednesday around 11:00 GMT. They opened fire on fishermen working in the area, leaving at least 20 dead.

Mustapha Kacahallah, a local resident, shared that his child was among the victims and that over 15 people had already been buried following the attack.

The Nigerian military and Borno state officials have yet to release any statements regarding the incident.
