Glenn maxwell misses out on Australia’s test squad for Sri Lanka tour.

Glenn Maxwell’s hopes of reviving his Test career appear dim after missing out on selection for Australia’s revamped squad for the upcoming two-Test series in Sri Lanka, starting January 29 in Galle.

Mitchell Marsh was also excluded from the squad, which will be led by Steve Smith in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins, who is on paternity leave and addressing an ankle issue.

Selectors have turned to uncapped all-rounder Cooper Connolly to strengthen spin options, joining Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, and Matthew Kuhnemann. Meanwhile, Nathan McSweeney has been recalled after being dropped mid-series against India.

Teenage opener Sam Konstas and all-rounder Beau Webster retain their places following strong Test debuts against India. Sean Abbott, another uncapped player, has been included as a pace option alongside Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland.

Selector George Bailey expressed optimism about giving opportunities to emerging players in subcontinent conditions, emphasizing the importance of these experiences ahead of key tours in the region.

Australia, having secured a 3-1 series victory over India and a spot in the World Test Championship final against South Africa in June, will focus on further honing their squad for challenging conditions in Sri Lanka.

Australia’s Squad:
