Maria asti defends ‘my body, my choice’ slogan, advocates for individual autonomy.

Renowned Pakistani actor Maria Wasti has voiced her support for the slogan “My Body, My Choice,” emphasizing that its meaning has been misrepresented and politicized within society.

Speaking on a podcast, Wasti delved into topics such as women’s rights, children’s rights, and issues faced by marginalized communities in Pakistan. She clarified the essence of the slogan, explaining that it advocates for autonomy, self-determination, and the freedom to make personal choices, rather than focusing solely on the physical body.

“The slogan is about empowering individuals to control their lives and decisions, not just about the body in isolation,” Wasti explained.

She criticized the societal misconception that reduces the slogan to a controversial statement, arguing that it highlights the fundamental right to autonomy.

Wasti also shed light on the struggles of Pakistani women, who constitute 55% of the population yet continue to face challenges as if they were a minority.

“Women are still fighting for basic rights in Pakistan. The idea of personal autonomy should not be controversial,” she added.

Her remarks underline the importance of addressing societal narratives and fostering a better understanding of issues related to individual freedom and empowerment.
