The black crowes relish Grammy nod for best rock album after 30 years.

For Chris and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes, the 2024 Grammy Awards mark a return to familiar ground—more than three decades after their first nomination in 1991. Back then, their debut album, Shake Your Money Maker, earned them a nod for Best New Artist, a title that ultimately went to Mariah Carey. Reflecting on that moment, Chris Robinson recalls their laid-back attitude:

“Are they going to give it to these dirtbag kids from Atlanta who just came to the party really to get thrown out?”

This year, the band has scored their second career Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album for their latest release, Happiness Bastards. They are competing with rock heavyweights like The Rolling Stones (Hackney Diamonds), Green Day (Saviors), and Pearl Jam (Dark Matter).

Rich Robinson expressed his excitement:
“Literally just to be nominated is an amazing thing. And to be nominated next to the Rolling Stones makes it even better.”

A Rock Revival with Happiness Bastards

Happiness Bastards is a 10-track celebration of classic rock influences, featuring elements like Southern boogie, blues harmonica, and glam rock. Songs such as “Rats and Clowns” and “Cross Your Fingers” highlight the band’s enduring ability to craft dynamic, gritty rock music. Chris Robinson describes the album as:

“Funky, rockin’, and kind of salty… integrated with everything that we’ve done and where we’re going.”

With this nomination, The Black Crowes not only celebrate their legacy but also reaffirm their commitment to the future of rock music.
