Popular YouTuber Rajab Butt, who was recently arrested for possessing illegal weapons and violating wildlife laws, has been released on personal surety. According to sources familiar with the case, the Station House Officer (SHO) overseeing the matter approved the surety, granting Butt temporary relief.
Rajab Butt’s arrest came shortly after his lavish wedding in Lahore. The Punjab Wildlife Department and police conducted a joint raid on his residence following the emergence of a viral video showing him receiving a newborn lion cub as a wedding gift. This sparked widespread concern over the illegal possession of wildlife.
The FIR, filed by Sub-Inspector Arsalan Ejaz under the Punjab Arms Ordinance 1965, reported the seizure of a .223 calibre rifle and ammunition during the raid. The document also noted the illegal presence of the lion cub, which was kept without the required permits.
Officials condemned the incident, with one stating, “Such violations set a dangerous precedent and undermine the state’s efforts to safeguard endangered species.”
This case highlights the ongoing challenges of enforcing wildlife protection laws and preventing illegal arms possession in the region.
