A 57-year-old livestock farmer tragically lost his life in flash floods that struck the Greek island of Limnos in the northern Aegean on Saturday as torrential rains battered the region.
According to a Fire Brigade official, the victim was swept away by a torrent in the Kontias area while attempting to free his car from mud. Rescue teams later recovered his body near the vehicle.
The Fire Brigade has been inundated with calls to pump water out of flooded buildings across the island, reflecting the widespread impact of the heavy rainfall.
Greece’s civil protection service has issued warnings to citizens, urging caution and preparedness as severe weather conditions continue to pose risks across affected regions.
