Senior journalist and television anchor Matiullah Jan was arrested late last night in Islamabad, according to a social media post by his son. The sudden detention has raised alarm within the journalistic community, as the circumstances surrounding his arrest remain shrouded in mystery.
Matiullah Jan’s son revealed that his father was at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital with fellow journalist Saqib Bashir at the time of his arrest. The two were initially detained together, but Bashir was reportedly released after the vehicle carrying them had traveled a short distance.
Despite repeated attempts to obtain clarification, local police have refused to provide any information about the charges or the case filed against Matiullah Jan, further fueling concerns and speculation among media circles.
