Iran’s Foreign Ministry has called for an arms embargo against Israel and demanded its expulsion from the United Nations following a recent deadly airstrike in Syria. Tehran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, condemned what he described as an “aggressive attack” by Israel on a residential building in the Damascus area. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the strike targeted an apartment used by Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group backed by Iran, resulting in nine deaths, including a Hezbollah commander.
In response, Baghaei urged the international community to impose an arms embargo on Israel and expel it from the United Nations. Tensions in the region have escalated since the Gaza war began in October 2023, with direct confrontations emerging between Iran-aligned militants and Israel. Israel, which has conducted numerous strikes in Syria since the civil war began in 2011, has stated that it will continue to counter Iran’s influence in the region.
