Ahsan Iqbal Asserts No Dialogue with Imran Khan Until Apology for May 9 Events

PML-N Central Leader and Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, has made it clear that no talks will be held with PTI founder Imran Khan until he apologizes for the events of May 9. Speaking to the media after a meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Lahore, Iqbal emphasized the importance of accountability and the need for reforms in the country.

Review of Government Expenditures

During the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the need for both federal and provincial governments to review their expenditures in order to alleviate the burden of inflation on the public. He stressed that the government is actively considering reforms to reduce electricity costs, a critical issue for the citizens facing rising utility bills.

Reforms in Local Government System

A significant portion of the meeting focused on the need to establish an effective local government system in Pakistan. Iqbal mentioned that Nawaz Sharif, the party’s leader, has directed the party to pursue reforms in the current local government structure. The aim is to create a system that is more responsive and efficient in addressing the needs of the public. The meeting also included discussions on various proposals to further strengthen and organize the party at all levels.

Stance on Imran Khan

Addressing questions about Imran Khan, Ahsan Iqbal was firm in his stance that there can be no negotiations with the PTI chairman unless he issues an apology for the incidents of May 9. On that day, widespread protests and unrest were reported following the arrest of Imran Khan, which led to significant damage to public and private properties. Iqbal stated that Imran Khan is currently imprisoned but is receiving favorable treatment, implying that he is in a “five-star jail.”

Iqbal drew a comparison between Khan’s imprisonment and the treatment that PML-N leaders faced during their time in jail. He pointed out that despite facing harsh conditions, they did not complain, emphasizing that Khan would not receive any special treatment or an NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance). He insisted that Khan must prove his innocence and provide the necessary documentation to clear his name.

PTI’s Alleged Collaboration with Foreign Entities

Ahsan Iqbal also made a serious allegation, stating that Pakistan is currently facing an undeclared war. He accused PTI of collaborating with India to pass a resolution against Pakistan in the United States. This claim reflects the ongoing tension between the PML-N and PTI, further deepening the divide between the two parties.

Nawaz Sharif’s Return to Pakistan

When questioned about Nawaz Sharif’s potential return to Pakistan from London, Ahsan Iqbal clarified that Sharif’s travel plans are not yet finalized. However, he assured that Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan once the party completes its final preparations for his return. Sharif’s comeback is eagerly anticipated by the party’s supporters, as he remains a central figure in PML-N’s political strategy.

Ahsan Iqbal’s statements highlight the PML-N’s firm stance on holding Imran Khan accountable for his actions, particularly in relation to the events of May 9. The emphasis on reforms in government expenditure and the local government system underscores the party’s focus on addressing economic challenges and improving governance. As political tensions continue to simmer, the PML-N appears to be preparing for significant political maneuvers in the near future, with Nawaz Sharif’s return likely playing a pivotal role in the party’s strategy.
