Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that it has terminated the contract of FC Cincinnati forward Aaron Boupendza, effective immediately.
While the league did not provide a specific reason for the decision, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Boupendza allegedly failed to meet his contractual obligations.
Boupendza’s tenure with FC Cincinnati was brief, lasting just 13 months. During this period, he was suspended for the club’s regular-season finale in 2023 due to a delayed return from international duty.
The Enquirer also noted that Boupendza faced challenges off the field, including a reported blackmail attempt in January and a broken jaw sustained in April following a confrontation with a professional boxer outside a downtown establishment.
At 28 years old, Boupendza made 14 appearances (five starts) this season, recording two goals and two assists. In the previous season, he scored five goals in 10 matches (six starts), including a game-winning goal in FC Cincinnati’s 3-2 victory over Toronto FC on September 30, which secured the Supporters’ Shield for the club.
