Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has addressed the recent statement by PTI founder Imran Khan, who offered a conditional apology for the vandalism that occurred on May 9.
On X (formerly Twitter), Maryam Nawaz remarked, “An apology is needed when a mistake is made, but a crime only merits punishment.” She added, “Attacking your own country is terrorism, not a mistake.”
Imran Khan had earlier declared his willingness to apologize for the May 9 riots if it was proven that PTI activists were involved. Speaking to journalists from Adiala Jail on Wednesday, Khan suggested that CCTV footage from May 9 should be released to identify the true perpetrators of the chaos.
He stated, “If any PTI members are found to be involved in the May 9 events, I will apologize, expel the workers from the party, and ensure they are punished.” Khan emphasized, “If even one PTI worker is identified in the CCTV footage, I will apologize.
