Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has reportedly declined offers from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to join as either CEO or advisor to the Chairman. The decision came in response to criticism directed at Mohsin Naqvi, the Interior Minister and PCB Chairman, for allegedly neglecting cricket responsibilities due to his dual roles.
Akram was approached by Naqvi to oversee cricket affairs, with an offer for a full-time position extended to him. However, Akram declined the offer, citing challenges related to relocating to Lahore from his permanent residence in Karachi, as well as his frequent travel to Australia for family reasons. Despite this, he expressed his willingness to support Pakistan cricket on a voluntary basis.
Following Akram’s decision, PCB officials have reached out to former fast bowler Waqar Younis, who has shown interest in relocating to Lahore. Younis has reportedly met with Naqvi to discuss the potential role, although a formal announcement from the board is yet to be made.
