Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has finally spoken out against false rumors regarding his alleged marriage to tennis player Sania Mirza, which have been circulating on social media.
Approximately a month ago, fabricated news reports and photoshopped images suggesting that Shami and Mirza were set to marry began spreading widely. These claims were featured in various media outlets and social media posts, despite being entirely false.
Sania Mirza’s father, Imran Mirza, quickly debunked the rumors, stating that his daughter had never even met Shami. “All of this is garbage,” he told journalists on June 21. “She hasn’t even met him.”
Several prominent Indian media sources, including ‘Masala’, Times Now, and Zoom, had reported that the alleged wedding was scheduled for August 20, 2024. However, these reports were baseless.
Shami expressed his frustration over the situation, noting, “It is strange to see my picture with someone I haven’t even met.” He criticized the spread of such misinformation, saying, “Memes can be fun, but when they involve someone’s personal life, they should be created with more responsibility. People often share news from unverified sources without accountability.”
He further challenged the perpetrators of these rumors, stating, “If you have the courage, make your statements from verified sources. Then I will respond.” Shami also advised critics to focus on their own achievements and contributions, saying, “Work hard, achieve success, and help others. Only then will I believe you are a good person.”
