In a bold move to combat tax evasion and drug trafficking, the Sindh government has announced plans to publish the names of tax evaders in newspapers, signaling a firm stance against those undermining the country’s economic prosperity. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and attended by key officials, including Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Secretary Salim Rajput.
During the meeting, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that tax evaders pose a significant threat to the nation’s progress and development. Asserting that such individuals will face repercussions for their actions, Memon reiterated the government’s commitment to holding tax evaders accountable by publicly disclosing their identities. Furthermore, he announced measures to freeze the accounts of those found guilty of tax evasion, underscoring the government’s determination to clamp down on financial wrongdoing.
In addition to addressing tax evasion, the meeting also focused on intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking across the province. Praising ongoing crackdowns against drug dealers, Memon urged authorities to accelerate their operations and ensure swift justice for offenders. He emphasized that drug dealers not only endanger public health but also jeopardize the future of the nation, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards drug-related crimes.
To bolster enforcement efforts, Memon announced plans to recruit qualified police officers and personnel into the Excise Department on deputation. This strategic move aims to enhance the department’s capabilities and streamline collaboration between law enforcement agencies in combating illicit drug activities. Initially, officers from Karachi and Hyderabad will be deployed to reinforce Excise Department operations, thereby augmenting the government’s capacity to tackle drug-related challenges effectively.
Furthermore, the meeting underscored the importance of strengthening prosecution and investigation processes to ensure robust legal action against drug offenders. Memon emphasized the need for close coordination among relevant institutions to streamline efforts and facilitate seamless cooperation in combating drug trafficking.
