In a landmark decision on Monday, the Supreme Court mandated re-polling in the PB-50 Qilla Abdullah constituency of the Balochistan Assembly. Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, leading a three-member bench, presided over the hearing in response to a petition filed by Zamurd Khan of the Awami National Party (ANP).
The verdict, reached with the consensus of all major political entities, including the Election Commission of Pakistan, underscores the commitment to electoral integrity and fairness. Initially, the court overturned the ECP’s decision to re-poll at six specific stations, opting instead for a comprehensive re-voting across the entire constituency, in adherence to legal standards.
Zamurd Khan, representing ANP, argued persuasively that the voter turnout in several polling stations within PB-50 was unacceptably low, warranting a fresh electoral mandate. The court’s decision reflects a dedication to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that every citizen’s voice is heard effectively.
