Election commission of Pakistan announces schedule for filling six vacant senate seats.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disclosed the timeline for conducting elections to occupy six vacant Senate seats, with voting slated for March 14.

According to the ECP, the vacancies arose as Senate members transitioned to other legislative bodies: one seat in Islamabad, two in Sindh, and three in Balochistan.

The schedule delineates that the collection of nomination papers will occur on March 2 and 3.

Lists of candidates are scheduled for publication on March 3, with the scrutiny of nomination papers to be completed by March 5.

Appeals concerning the acceptance or dismissal of nomination papers will be adjudicated on March 7 and resolved by March 9.

A revised roster of candidates will be issued on March 9, following which nominees can retract their nomination papers until March 10. Polling is slated for March 14.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri relinquished their Senate seats upon their election as members of the National Assembly.

Nisar Ahmed Khuro and Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar assumed positions as members of the provincial assembly of Sindh, while Prince Ahmed Umer Ahmedzai and Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti secured membership in the Balochistan Assembly.
