On Friday, after a meeting between two influential figures, the government considered it necessary and of special importance to meet with the Law Minister, as the President of the country was exercising his constitutional authority to set the date for elections.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Gulzar Ahmed, is presiding over a three-member bench for this particular hearing. The bench comprises Justice Aijazul Hassan and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as well.

Nevertheless, if he chooses to resign from his position upon the completion of his term, the constitution provides a clear mechanism for the appointment of his replacement. So far, President Arif has not indicated whether he will step down or continue in his role.

The backdrop to these developments is a challenging economic situation in Pakistan, with rising prices and inflationary pressures taking a toll on the public. The opposition sees the government, and Imran Khan in particular, as responsible for these woes and is seeking to capitalize on the discontent among the masses.

Arif Alvi will officially become the Caretaker President of the country next week, and on that day, his formal term will come to an end. In this way, both the Prime Minister and the President in the country will hold the title of “caretaker.”

Chairman Imran Khan himself is currently incarcerated in Attock Jail due to his involvement in the Toshakhana case, which involves alleged misappropriation of luxury cars and gifts received from foreign dignitaries during his tenure as Prime Minister.

The case has garnered significant attention and has become a focal point of political and legal discussions in Pakistan. The granting of bail until September 4th has temporarily eased the situation for Chairman PTI, but the legal proceedings and the broader implications of the case are still ongoing.

Justice Ijazul Hasan questioned whether NAB, being the accused, would make its own laws and regulate investigations. He raised concerns about whether the amendment was an attempt to seize control over NAB. Chief Justice noted that even if parliament passed laws for personal gain, the courts could intervene to safeguard democracy.
