Wassan, a key figure within the PPP leadership, asserted that they would not allow Nawaz Sharif’s return to the Prime Minister’s office. Instead, he outlined the party’s commitment to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, signaling that if circumstances lead to a general election, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would be the party’s choice for the position of Prime Minister.

According to party sources, Sheikh Rohail Asghar addressed the parliamentary board meeting, asserting that NA-121 is his ancestral constituency, and he intends to contest the elections from this very constituency. The party conveyed that Sheikh Rohail emphasized the historical connection his forebears had with this constituency, and he has been actively involved in politics in this region.

On the other hand, Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, a member of the Coordination Committee, reinforced the party’s stance, stating that MQM-Pakistan is not just contesting elections to secure opposition seats. He highlighted that without MQM-Pakistan, no one can become the Prime Minister, emphasizing the party’s pivotal role in national politics.

President Shehbaz Sharif underscored the need for collective efforts to overcome challenges, stating that everyone must exert maximum effort. He also indicated that the upcoming elections on February 8 would determine Pakistan’s future.

The situation in NA-121, represented by Aiaz Sadiq and Rohail Asghar Madmood, has also created complexities. Aiaz Sadiq is hesitant about contesting from NA-120, citing its predominantly rural composition.

Siddiqui stressed the significance of achieving results through votes, advocating for the power of the ballot over monetary influences. He underscored the rejection of corruption within the political landscape, specifically pointing out the alleged corruption within the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) over the last 15 years.

Despite the legal back-and-forth, on the 26th of December, the Peshawar High Court issued a stay order against the Election Commission’s decision, putting a hold on the retrieval of the symbol until a final verdict is reached. This legal deadlock underscored the complexity of the case, as the court refrained from providing a definitive ruling on the matter.

The Senator further mentioned the unique scenario in Lahore, where PML-N’s candidates for National Assembly seats in NA-117, NA-120, NA-119, and NA-121 are yet to be decided. Notably, Maryam Nawaz has submitted nomination papers for NA-119 and NA-120, hinting at her potential candidacy in these constituencies. The final decision for these crucial seats is awaited.

Addressing the situation in NA-242, Mustafa Kamal indicated that it is premature to comment on seat adjustments, emphasizing that clarity on the matter will emerge at an appropriate time. He assured that there is no deadlock, and discussions with the PML-N are continuing positively.
