He remarked that it is quite astonishing that a political party is dictating the election schedule, referring to a statement by Bilawal Bhutto, who had suggested a specific election date.

Chief Justice Bandial emphasized that within our courts, there is no disagreement on constitutional principles; rather, the differences among judges pertain to whether constitutional cases should be brought directly to the Supreme Court or not. He credited the excellent legal representation as a contributing factor and suggested that without such high-quality advocacy, the judiciary would not have been able to make these decisions.

Regarding the upcoming elections, he affirmed that his party and the PDM would not boycott them. He believed that the Election Commission should decide the election dates, and it was not bound to follow any order or recommendation from the President.

Following the assembly’s dissolution, there is a three-day window for finalizing the name of the caretaker prime minister. If consensus is not reached within this period, the matter will be referred to a parliamentary committee.

President Arif Alvi underscored the importance of fulfilling constitutional obligations and requested a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner to develop a procedural framework for implementing the constitution and its provisions effectively. However, in response, the Chief Election Commissioner took a contrary stance, asserting that the authority to call elections rests with the Election Commission.
